Why Do Strengths Matter?

We help build strengths-based organizations. It is the purpose of everybody at 34 Strong, it’s why we jump out of bed every morning, and we love doing it. The reason we do it is simple:

We aim to light people up, to give them the tools and understanding to live every day as the best version of themselves. We call it the rebirth of human potential.

Strengths Psychology pioneer Dr. Donald O. Clifton asked the question:

“What will happen when we think about what is right with people instead of fixating on what is wrong?”

At 34 Strong, we use the Clifton Strengthsfinder assessment to identify natural talent and focuses on developing that talent into strengths—bringing out the best in your people, their partnerships, and the teams that comprise the organization.

Building Strengths-Based Interdependent Teams

Because everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, it’s vital that the team understands their talents (as well as their watchouts) and manages around them. It must be a team effort.

This path to a strengths-based team, and the culture that goes with it, is a three-step process:

  1. Strong Interdependent People know their strengths and are confidently vulnerable in their weaknesses. They are aware of the contributions they make while they’re in their strengths zone, and they possess a keen awareness of their needs that must be met to get them to and keep them there.
  2. Strong Interdependent Partners communicate effectively, collaborate efficiently, and create a mutually respectful environment.

Strong Interdependent Teams educate each other, openly discuss strengths awareness of self and team. They focus on developing the team, because they understand that they can go much further together.

The Story of 34 Strong

“If you want to go fast…go by yourself. If you want to go far, go together.” -African Proverb

34 Strong CEO Brandon Miller, who has more than 10 years of experience working in organizations with Strengthsfinder, was part of the inaugural class of Gallup Certified coaches. During his certification, Miller realized that he could take the power of Strengths much further with a team. He shared his thoughts with Co-Founder and COO Darren Virassammy, also a firm believer in going far together, and in 2013, 34 Strong was born.

34 Strong is the first strengths-based organization we ever built, and we can do the same for you.

Why 34 Strong?

The name 34Strong comes from the StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment. Gallup has identified 34 talent themes that comes to life as strengths within all of us. We all have unique combinations of these 34 talent themes that serve as our dominant, supporting, and lesser strengths. Our name, 34Strong, recognizes and celebrates the fact that each of these 34 talents are all strengths.
